We're Mad As Hell And We're Not Gonna...zzzz.

You know what pisses me off about the average American these days? They get all ticked off and vocal about something - whether it be the AIG bonuses, the current drive to have government handle health care, or Michael Vick being allowed back into the NFL, and then they just peter out. After five minutes of yelling, they get distracted by seeing someone else's bright orange Cheetoh’s fingers out of the corner of their eye and can no longer think of anything else.

"Fuck the government! Damn, I could sure go for some Cheetoh’s!"

The government, of course, is totally onto us in that respect and they've learned that as long as they trot out the guilty parties and lay into them with the cameras rolling, they can then turn right around and give the bankers or automakers the money and do whatever the hell they were gonna do anyway. They've learned that, while we want change for the better, we'll settle for yelling ourselves hoarse and falling asleep with a half-eaten boneless chicken wing in one hand

When I think about the people who got pissed and, most importantly, STAYED pissed long enough to start chucking loads of tea into the Boston Harbor and go head-to-head against the British Empire, I am filled with a sense of disappintment when I look at what we've become. Americans no longer have the attention span to carry on a five-minute conversation, much less stay mad about something in order to bring about positive change. Of course, that which most people find important these days is perhaps cause for even more concern. As long as there are obvious injustices in the "American Idol" voting process, good luck getting these people to give a damn about health care or anything else that actually affects their livelihood.

We've become a nation of lazy, easily placated morons and that should be cause for great concern to the powers that be, but it isn't, It is exactly what they want, as it allows them to do whatever they want with a minimum of accountability.

We want answers, of course, just don't bore us with the details!

If we cared enough to do what was right, parents would have gone into their sons bedroom and tossed out the Michael Vick jersey the moment the guy went to jail. Instead, to many, he remains a hero. Can you believe that? Me neither, but it's true.

In a perfect world, no NFL team in the country would go near Michael Vick and he'd be lucky to get a job at the local Wal-Mart. Don't forget the dude is a low-life murderer. Too harsh for you? Maybe you'd like to have someone treat you the way this guy treated dogs on a regular basis, killing them when they were no longer of any use to him.

But this is far from a perfect world and, well, the Eagles need a quarterback. Never mind that Eagles coach Andy Reid is a scumbag (and a shitty father to boot), he's got more important things to worry about than doing what is morally correct. He and the Eagles organization know that there may be a lot of initial heat about their signing of a convicted felon, but that even those fans who walk away will eventually come back...most sooner rather than later.

I mean, you can't expect a lifelong Eagles fan to walk away for good, can you? Come Sunday morning, they won't know what to do with themselves and could suffer an irreversible brain lock if they don't get their recommended weekly allowance of watching Reid tear his headset off his head at yet another missed opportunity. The dude is a blockhead. He doesn't even realize that, in his selfish attempt to win at all costs, he has brought poison into his camp.

Or perhaps he does realize this and has chosen to do it anyway.

I used to think that such thoughts never took place, but I have seen enough intentional evil (I'm looking at you, Dick Cheney) to know that no there is no limitation to what some people will do, regardless of who else it hurts. We should've stood up a long time ago, voiced our concerns when our elected officials said one thing and did the other, but we didn't. We knew they'd burn the town down around them, so to speak, and that the statute of limitations would have run out by the time the truth became painfully evident.

What are we going to get mad about next and then let happen anyway? The mind boggles.
